This cloudforest is located in the province of Chiriqui, which is one of the few refugees' left, where the beautiful and elusive Resplendent Quetzal is found.  These forests are centered on the base of the inactive Baru Volcano, which rises to a height of about 11,000 feet.  On the eastern side of the Volcano is the picturesque town of Boquete.   The summit of Baru Volcano can also be reached in two hours by road from Boquete. From the peak, on a clear day, you can see both oceans.  Boquete is also the working center for the Ngobe-Bugle Indians.  Several large flower farms are located in Boquete which holds an annual Flower Festival Fair in January of each year. On the western side of the Volcano is the town of Bambito at 6,500 ft., some 1,500 ft. higher and cooler than Boquete on the eastern side of the Volcano.  Attractions around Cerro Punta, include a visit to the Panama Headquarters of Amistad International Park, one of the largest in Central America and also one of the first tropical forest parks which spans the borders of two countries.
